Free Cover Letters

The cover or application letter is an important tool in the job search process. The cover letter is the first page with the resume as the second. The purpose of combining the cover letter and resume is to spark the employer's interest and to be invited for an interview or informational meeting. To write an effective cover letter you need to take time to research and write an original letter. You should tailor each letter to be specific to each employer and reflect your knowledge of the employer's needs. Researching the organization and opportunity before you write will make this task much easier.

Mr. Mike Matters,
Morrison Social Services
6667 Opportunity Circle
Any Town, MN 55555

Dear Mr. Matters:

I noticed your position for a funeral director posted in the www.socialserviceemployment.com job bank. To help me through college at St. Thomas, I worked at a local funeral home. Initially I worked part-time then in my sophomore year, I began to add more hours.

Upon graduation, I moved back to my hometown and was hired as assistant manager of one of the Johnson Funeral Homes. Johnson Funeral Homes operates seven locations in five communities within a 50-mile radius. Over the years, I have worked at each from time to time.

I received my B. A. in Psychology in 2000. Amongst my several duties, I used this degree to console loved ones.

Unfortunately, Johnson Funeral Homes was acquired by a larger organization and their reorganization led to the closing of my location.

I believe an in-person meeting or interview would be a great way to discuss the requirements and expectations you may have for this position. I would appreciate it if you would contact me at your earliest convenience. I have also enclosed my resume detailing my achievements for your review.

I can be reached at myemail@example.com or (555) 555-5555. I am somewhat flexible and with a days notice, I can meet with you.

Thank you for reading my letter. Please consider me for this position.

Sincerely,

Jane Doe
